There was a time before 16-lane freeways and microwaves—when your town itself enriched
your life.
It still exists in Kerrville, in the Texas Hill Country. Fine art, fine music, and friendly people abound. And the year-round mean temperature is 62 degrees. It's all good.
It isn’t so hard, really. Most people in North America remember a time and place when we were young. Life was simpler. People were friendlier. The air and water were clean, and taxes were reasonable.
Maybe Kerr County has been protected by our hills and rivers geography. The industrial revolution pretty much passed it by as the railroad did. What was preserved was a quality of life more like the U.S. in the early 1950s.
Kerrville is a small town, so most people know their neighbors, and feel accountable for each other’s well-being. We have some gated communities, but we don’t really need them. Crime rates are far lower than national and state averages. You just feel safer living in this small town.
Texas is friendly. And Kerrville is the virtual capital of Texas friendly. Social theorists have attempted explanations. For instance, “...sparse population in the 19th and 20th centuries has had the affect of making people in the region appreciate neighbors for security, for social interaction, and commerce.” Whatever the cause, people here do count. In nearby Luckenbach, the famous Texas dance hall, the slogan is, “Luckenbach, where everybody is somebody.”
A 6,000 foot runway and abundant ground services make general aviation a great way to travel to and from Kerrville.
