"Learning by Heart" characterizes the experience of students at Schreiner University, a private liberal arts university with about 1,000 full-time students in 22 major fields.
Kerrville has long been a center for education in Central Texas. Schreiner Institute started in 1923 as a military boarding and finishing school and is today a four-year private university with a wonderful national reputation. Enrollment is growing and stands at about 1,000 students. The University offers 22 bachelors degrees as well as a Master of Education degree. Schreiner is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and serves the community as well as its diverse student body. Non-traditional students make up a significant percentage of the enrollment, and the University’s library, auditoriums, meeting rooms, athletic and arts programs are all available to people who live in Kerrville.
In addition, the public school system enjoys modern, beautiful facilities on seven campuses serving grades K-12. Kerrville’s Tivy High School enrolls 1,400 students in four grades and the new high school campus was finished in 2003. Tivy is a statewide leader in football, baseball, soccer, debate, chorale, and mock trial competitions. The Texas Education Agency awarded the Kerrville Independent School District a “Recognized” rating for the 2007 State Accountability Ratings for districts and campuses throughout the state.
The district also operates ClubEd classes for continuing and non-traditional education in a broad array of interests.
Notre Dame Catholic private primary school serves students in grades K-8, and Our Lady of the Hills private high school serves students in grades 9-12.
